Nommo Speakers’Training (Empower your voice through enlivening your heart)
This training is developed for the purpose of assisting people with getting the maximum benefit out of telling their stories and impacting change within the universe. We contend that all people have a story to tell and that in telling that story the listener and the presenter are empowered and moved to change their beliefs as well as their behaviors. Within the context of a supportive organization participants are further empowered to effectively impart knowledge, wisdom and understanding that will make an eternal impression upon the universe.
Why Nommo?
According to the Dogon people of West Afrika there is power in the spoken word. Nommo means the power of the spoken word. This word has heat and moisture; the same substance that creates life therefore word creates life. This means that we must be extremely responsible with “the word”. For Afrikan people throughout the world “the word” has held extreme power and thus the purveyor of “the word” was highly regarded. The Dogon have dimensions of the word which are: Giri So-word from the front or that which is uttered, Benne So – word from the side of the explicit meaning of the word, Bolo So word from the side- the deep implications and meaning of the word and So Dayi – the clear word or the essence of the word in totality. It is believed that very few people ever get to So Dayi –The Clear word. Our training program facilitates speakers understanding the profound dynamics of speaking and using the word righteously.

There are three levels of the Nommo Speakers’ Training sessions: 1) The Basics of Nommo, 2) The Nommo Process, and 3) The Nommo Business.
The Basics of Nommo (Unmask Your Passions) : Level 1 provides participants with an overview of the speaking and listening process. Speakers will gain insight into the power of the word and they will learn how to utilize that power responsibly. It is at this stage of the speaking process that aspiring speakers as well as professional speakers acquire the skills of speaking through researching their materials, listening to others, listening to themselves, and delivering short speaking presentations. Speakers will learn how to listen to their inner voice and develop topics and presentations that come from their hearts. In order for this to happen speakers are taken on a journey of self-discovery that will allow them to unmask their passions.
The Nommo Process (The Power of the Voice) : At level 2 participants learn how to put the components of speaking and listening effectively into action. Participants will learn:
- How to organize their presentations in order to have maximum effect
- Various ways of transforming a thought into a speaking opportunity
- How to develop topics that others would like to hear about
- The importance of developing an area of interest/expertise
- The difference between writing and delivering a seminar, workshop, panel discussion, a break out session, keynote address and a speech
- How to use their voice as tool to touch the inner essence of others. To do this participants are to present some their own speaking topics as well as make speaking presentations to the group.
The participants provide feedback to the each other that is designed to propel the speaker in the direction of becoming a highly effective speaker. The basic premise here is that ‘one who learns teaches and one who teaches learns.’ At this stage the participants are studying the process of speaking through the act of speaking.
The Nommo Business (Manifesting Your Speaking Greatness) : Whereas it is good for a speaker to be able to make a good presentation it is imperative for that speaker to receive compensation. The business side of public speaking is explored at level 3. Speakers will learn:

Each level of the Nommo Speakers Training is designed to take the speaker to new levels of speaking, The session can occur once a week for 12 weeks with sessions lasting 2 hours or they can occur in the form of Power Weekends or Power Retreats that provide approximately15 to 20 hours of training. The idea is to provide growth opportunities for participants. All activities are designed to help people tell their stories in the most effective way because there is truly power in the spoken word.
